Royal Kathina Robe Ceremony

Annual presentation of new robes to the monks at the end of Buddhist Lent

Sunday 18 October 2009

The Trustees of the Thai-British Buddhist Trust are pleased to announce that a Kathina Ceremony will be held on 18th October 2009. The Trustees are proud to advise our members that this year the Temple has again been selected to receive His Majesty the King's offering of Royal Robes.  This is the third year in the Temple's history that we have received this honour.  The new Royal Robes will be brought from Thailand by the party of representatives, and offered to the Temple's monks on Sunday 18 October 2009 at 2 p.m.

You, your family and friends are cordially invited to join us for this special occasion.

Revenues raised in the course of the Kathina Ceremony will go towards to the expense for the construction of a new kitchen which will approximately cost 50,000 pounds.   At the moment, however, the mortgage on the Temple has already been reduced from £800,000 to £250,000.

The Trustees of the Buddhavihara Temple wish to thank all our members for their past and future generous donations to the Temple to support the Dhammaduta work of the monks.  May the donors be blessed by the Triple Gem with all happiness and prosperity.

Donations of £100 pounds or more will be recognised with a certificate, each £100 effectively enabling the Temple to pay off a further 1 square metre of land.

Songkran ~ Thai New Year Sunday 19th April 2009 9.00am ~ 4.00pm

One of Thailand's best known festivals is Songkran (the celebration of the New Year). In Thailand the celebrations go on for two weeks and involves much water throwing. Here in the UK in April, water throwing isn't really practical, but although there is much religious significance, it is still great fun.

Join us at Eastfield House as we celebrate this ancient Thai custom

Enjoy & Experience:

      • Buddhist Ceremony of Blessing from the Monks
      • Thai boxing demonstration
      • Display of classical Thai dancing & music
      • Thai food stalls & supermarket

Please contact the Temple for more details of any event.
